The GTA LNG project anchors this growth, while the BirAllah field targets 10 million tons of LNG annually by 2030. With the world’s first hydrogen code and projects like CWP Global’s Aman and Chariot’s Project Nour, Mauritania is positioning itself as a leading hub for sustainable energy in Africa.
Senegal: Expanding Production and Downstream Capacity
Senegal’s energy sector is entering a transformative phase with major milestones across oil and gas. The GTA LNG project, developed with Mauritania, bp, and Kosmos Energy, has achieved first gas and shipments in 2025, while Yakaar-Teranga moves toward FID to balance local demand and exports.
The Gambia: Exploring New Frontiers
The Gambia is advancing its energy ambitions through expanded offshore exploration and nationwide electrification. Supported by the African Development Bank, the country targets 90% electrification by 2025, including 50% in rural areas. Offshore blocks A2 and A5, operated by FAR, hold an estimated 1.2 billion barrels of potential reserves, with new partnership opportunities emerging.
Guinea-Bissau: Emerging Opportunities in Exploration
Guinea-Bissau is strengthening partnerships to unlock its energy potential, marked by Apus Energy’s Atum-1X well — the country’s first offshore exploration in nearly two decades — targeting 314 million barrels near Senegal’s Sangomar field.
Guinea-Conakry: Strengthening the Upstream and Power Sectors
Guinea-Conakry is advancing energy reforms and launching a 22-block bid round with updated seismic data to attract upstream investment. The West Africa LNG Group’s $300 million terminal at the Port of Kamsar, paired with a 1,900 MW gas-to-power plant, will supply the growing mining sector.

The second bill introduces new mechanisms to promote small and medium-sized enterprises that provide high-quality goods and services, as well as develop local expertise and know-how in the country’s extractive industries.

Rising demand for sustainable energy worldwide, combined with unparalleled renewable energy resources in Africa, has made the continent both a strategic and highly attractive green hydrogen market. In the MSGBC region, Mauritania has unveiled ambitious plans for large-scale projects aimed at producing 12.5 million tons of green hydrogen annually by 2035.
