Stena Don Drill Rig Begins Mobilization to Morocco to Drill Appraisal Well for Chariot

Africa-based transitional energy company, Chariot, has announced that independent drilling contractor, Stena Drilling, has commenced mobilization of its Stena Don drilling rig to Morocco to conduct drilling operations at the Anchois gas field, located within Morocco’s offshore Lixus license.

The semi-submersible rig, which has departed St. George’s Channel in the Irish Sea, is expected to arrive offshore Morocco on 13 December, with operations expected to take up to approximately 40 days.

Drilling operations on the Anchois gas appraisal well are expected to confirm gas resource volumes, reservoir quality, well-productivity, and to potentially deepen the well in order to establish a larger resource base for longer-term growth.

“We are excited for drilling operations to get underway at Anchois and we look forward to keeping the market updated on developments as appropriate,” stated Adonis Pouroulis, Acting CEO of Chariot.

Covering an area of approximately 2,500km2, in water-depths of up to 850m, the Lixus license contains four drilled wells – one of which being the Anchois gas discovery – and has been covered by 3D seismic exploration.

Chariot has stated that the Anchois development will consist of a subsea flowline connected to an onshore Central Processing Facility where gas will be processed and delivered to the Maghreb-Europe gas pipeline through an onshore gas flowline where it will be exported to international markets.
