Described as a significant and historic development by Minister Tekalign, in addition to improving commercial connectivity between the two countries, the project aims to rectify the artificial border separation, therefore improving regional cooperation. 

Presiding over the signing ceremony, South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit stated that “This is a strategic project that connects our people and serves their needs,” emphasizing the role it will play in advancing economic ties between the two countries while strengthening the free movement of people and goods in the Horn of Africa.

“Our hope is to move together to help one another. This is what our people want to see,” President Mayardit added.

Meanwhile, discussions during the signing ceremony shifted to potential collaborations regarding infrastructure development, with the respective Finance Ministers exploring future regional integration projects covering sectors such as power and downstream oil.
