Woodside Energy Marks 50 Million-Barrel Milestone at Sangomar

Petroleum exploration and production company Woodside Energy has announced that more than 50 million barrels of oil have been extracted from the landmark Sangomar oilfield, situated offshore Senegal.

Announced by Clive Jones, Vice President-Senegal, Woodside Energy, at the MSGBC Oil, Gas & Power 2025 conference in Dakar on December 9, the number of barrels lifted represent approximately 8% of the recoverable resources from the Sangomar field, which began production in June 2024.

“With a stable, predictable investment environment, we’re excited about looking forward to becoming a bigger part of Senegal’s energy future,” Jones stated.

Woodside Energy’s achievement comes as the basin’s other flagship project – the bp-operated Greater Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) LNG development – continues to deliver major milestones of its own. Since achieving first LNG in December 2024, the GTA project has steadily produced LNG and is contributing to regional skills development, infrastructure and sustainable economic opportunities for Mauritania and Senegal.

Delivering a keynote address at the MSGBC Oil, Gas & Power 2025 conference, Dave Campbell, Senior Vice President for Mauritania and Senega at energy major bp, stated that, “Together with our partners, we have delivered a groundbreaking, world-class project in the GTA LNG development. Partnerships like GTA thrive because of inclusive and collaborative environments like the MSGBC basin.”
