West Africa’s Energy Future in Focus as MSGBC 2026 Sets Stage for 5 National Spotlights
The MSGBC Oil, Gas & Power 2026 conference and exhibition will spotlight the next phase of West Africa’s energy growth through a series of dedicated National Spotlight sessions focused on Mauritania, Senegal, The Gambia, Guinea-Bissau and Guinea-Conakry. Taking place from December 1–3, 2026 in Dakar, Senegal, the event will convene regional governments, operators, investors and infrastructure developers to examine the projects, policies and partnerships shaping the MSGBC basin’s evolving oil, gas and power landscape.
The Mauritania session, titled Deepwater Gas & Green Energy Expansion, will explore the country’s LNG export ambitions, hydrogen strategy and offshore exploration frontier. Mauritania currently holds an estimated 142 trillion cubic feet (tcf) of gas resources, anchored by projects such as bp and Kosmos Energy’s Greater Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) LNG development and the BirAllah gas field, estimated at over 50 tcf. GTA Phase 1 targets 2.5 million tons per year of LNG production, while the country is simultaneously advancing a green hydrogen pipeline valued at more than $8 billion, including the 30 GW Aman project. The session is expected to examine how Mauritania is balancing hydrocarbon monetization with long-term renewable energy ambitions while strengthening local content and export infrastructure.
Under the theme From First Oil to LNG Export Leader, the Senegal session will examine the country’s transformation into a regional hydrocarbons producer. Since achieving first oil at Woodside Energy’s Sangomar field in 2024, Senegal has accelerated offshore production growth, with Sangomar exporting 3.8 million barrels in January 2026 alone. At the same time, national oil company Petrosen advances the Yakaar-Teranga gas project, estimated to contain 25 tcf of gas and requiring $7.5 billion in investment. Discussions are expected to focus on Senegal’s gas-to-power roadmap, local content reforms, upcoming licensing strategy and plans to integrate offshore gas into power generation.
The Gambia session, Downstream, Storage and Infrastructure Hub, will analyze the country’s strategy to position itself as a regional logistics and energy services center. Supported by the African Development Bank, the country is targeting 90% electrification, including 50% rural electrification, while offshore blocks A2 and A5 are estimated to hold up to 1.2 billion barrels of oil reserves. Discussions should explore how downstream investment, storage facilities and midstream infrastructure can strengthen the country’s regional energy role.
The Guinea-Bissau session, Frontier Exploration & Strategic Partnerships, is expected to focus on offshore opportunities. The country recently saw renewed exploration momentum through the Atum-1X well operated by Apus Energy, the first offshore exploration campaign in nearly two decades, targeting an estimated 314 million barrels near Senegal’s Sangomar field. Chevron’s recent entry into Guinea-Bissau acreage has further reinforced investor attention on the basin’s underexplored southern frontier.
Meanwhile, the Guinea-Conakry session, Gas-to-Power & Industrial Growth, will explore how the country is leveraging the energy sector to support mining expansion. Guinea-Conakry is preparing a 22-block licensing round aimed at attracting upstream investment while simultaneously developing major gas-to-power infrastructure. Among the flagship projects is the West Africa LNG Group’s planned $300 million terminal at the Port of Kamsar, paired with a 1,900 MW gas-fired power project designed to supply the mining sector and strengthen industrial energy security.
“The National Spotlight sessions reflect the diversity of opportunities emerging across the MSGBC basin, from LNG exports and offshore exploration to gas-to-power integration, infrastructure expansion and green energy development,” said Sandra Jeque, Vice President, Energy Capital & Power. “MSGBC 2026 will provide a platform for investors to align around the projects shaping the next decade of regional energy growth.”
