TGS to Map the Next Phase of MSGBC Exploration as New Data Reshapes the Basin

The MSGBC basin is entering a new – but not uncharted – phase of exploration as production data from Senegal's Sangomar oil field and the GTA LNG project reshapes the understanding of the region's subsurface. Insights generated from these producing assets are refining geological models across the basin, allowing operators to reassess exploration risk and identify new prospectivity. At MSGBC Oil, Gas & Power 2026, taking place December 1-3 in Dakar, Felicia Winter, Principal Exploration Advisor at TGS, will present the latest subsurface assessment of the basin and examine what it means for the next wave of exploration.
Winter will deliver the technical presentation, "Basin Architecture & Subsurface Potential: Mapping the Next Phase of MSGBC Exploration,” having played a key role in TGS' regional petroleum systems analysis and contributed to the development of the Jaan 3D dataset – a 28,000 km² merged 3D seismic volume spanning offshore Senegal and Guinea-Bissau.
The presentation will explore how recent drilling and production have strengthened the industry's understanding of hydrocarbon generation, migration pathways and reservoir distribution across the basin. Production data from operating fields is providing valuable calibration points for geological models, helping reduce uncertainty around petroleum systems and enabling a more confident evaluation of both established and frontier acreage.
These developments come as a new generation of operators expands exploration activity across the region. Chevron has entered Guinea-Bissau's deepwater Blocks 5B and 6B, while Eni has acquired Block A1 in The Gambia and additional acreage offshore Guinea-Conakry. Meanwhile, Apus Energy is advancing exploration through the Sinapa and Esperança licenses in Guinea-Bissau. Winter's presentation will place these assets within TGS' updated subsurface framework, highlighting where prospectivity has strengthened and where exploration risk has been materially reduced.
TGS has supported exploration across the MSGBC basin since 2010, providing subsurface data and geological interpretation throughout the region. In April 2025, the company expanded its offshore Mauritania multi-client library with more than 101,500 km² of new 3D seismic data, further strengthening one of the basin's most comprehensive regional datasets. Drawing on this extensive seismic portfolio and the latest production insights, the presentation will provide delegates with an updated technical perspective on the basin's remaining exploration potential ahead of the next phase of drilling.
