S&P Global Commodity Insights to Speak at MSGBC Oil, Gas & Power 2025
)
Representing one of the world’s leading providers of energy information, analytics and benchmark pricing, Schmid’s participation comes at a pivotal moment for the MSGBC region. Senegal and Mauritania are entering the ranks of global LNG exporters with the Greater Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) project – which achieved first gas at the start of this year – along with other large-scale gas developments across the basin.
Straddling the maritime border between the two countries, GTA is the region’s first major gas development, led by bp, Kosmos Energy, and the national oil companies SMH and Petrosen. Its first phase targets production of 2.5 million tons of LNG per year, with further phases expected to increase capacity. LNG from GTA will supply global markets while supporting domestic industries, regional energy security and economic diversification.
Beyond GTA, Mauritania is advancing the BirAllah gas field, estimated at over 50 trillion cubic feet, while Senegal progresses with the Yakaar-Teranga project, focusing on domestic gas-to-power needs. The Mauritanian government is actively seeking investors and bringing in new technical and financial capacity to develop BirAllah, while Petrosen is targeting a final investment decision for Yakaar-Teranga in 2025. Together, these projects position the MSGBC region as a rising hub for global LNG trade and as a driver of industrial growth in mining, manufacturing and power generation.
Representing S&P Global Commodity Insights, Schmid is well-positioned to bring critical analysis of upstream trends, LNG pricing and global market dynamics shaping the region’s gas outlook. The company’s expertise in market transparency and supply chain dynamics are set to inform high-level dialogue at this year’s event, enabling governments, operators and investors to make data-driven decisions that advance the basin’s long-term potential.
“Eric Schmid’s confirmation as a speaker brings deep market intelligence to the MSGBC Oil, Gas & Power 2025 program. As Senegal and Mauritania advance flagship LNG projects, his insights will help stakeholders better understand global trends, regional opportunities and strategies to unlock long-term value from the basin,” said Sandra Jeque, Project Director, Energy Capital & Power.
