SAR Committed to Senegal’s 2050 Vision, CEO Says

Senegal’s national oil refining company Société Africaine de Raffinage (SAR) has reaffirmed its commitment to Senegal’s 2050 Vision for long-term development. Under this vision, SAR aims to leverage the country’s status as an oil-producing nation to reduce dependence on imports and support socioeconomic development.

According to SAR CEO Mamadou Abib Diop, who spoke during the MSGBC Oil, Gas & Power 2025 conference and exhibition in Dakar, the company’s SAR 2.0 project aims to support major upgrades to the country’s sole refinery and process newly extracted crude oil from the Sangomar oil field.

“With the Senegal 2050 Vision, the government stresses energy sovereignty. This will be a crucial lever to make Senegal a prosperous country,” stated Diop. “What connects us here in the MSGBC region is our united vision to achieve an integrated energy vision.”

Under Senegal’s 2050 Vision, SAR plans to become a key regional player in West Africa’s oil processing and distribution space. The company has reaffirmed plans to maximize the added value of local resources and foster skills transfer to local Senegalese workers.

Senegal became an oil-producing nation in June 2024 with the successful start of production from the $5.2 billion Sangomar oilfield development.
