MSGBC Oil, Gas & Power 2025 to Spotlight Regional Geological Opportunities
The MSGBC Oil, Gas & Power 2025 conference and exhibition will showcase the latest geoscience-driven opportunities across North-West Africa’s hydrocarbon sector, set against a backdrop of record-breaking production and new major investments. A series of panel discussions and presentations will shed light into recent geostrategic shifts and how the MSGBC region is positioning itself to become the next major exploration and production hub.
During the event, a conference panel, A New Global Geostrategic Shift: Promoting Hydrocarbon Blocks in North-West Africa, will explore how governments are improving fiscal and regulatory terms, promoting both offshore and underexplored onshore blocks, and leveraging geological intelligence to attract capital. Panelists include Rogers Beall, Executive Chairman, Africa Fortesa Corporation; Ben Sayers, CEO, GeoPartners; Chemsdine Sow Deina, Director General of Petroleum and Low Carbon Hydrogen, Ministry of Energy and Petroleum Mauritania; and a senior representative from energy major Chevron.
Complementing the panel, Karyna Rodriguez, VP Global New Ventures at Searcher, will present Strategic Opportunities in Deepwater Exploration: Where the Giant Plays Await Offshore Senegal. The presentation will unpack Albian and Turonian turbidites, Cenomanian-Turonian source shales, Late Jurassic–Lower Cretaceous carbonate build-ups and hydrocarbon migration pathways, offering key insight into regional geology. As such, delegates will gain a comprehensive geoscience perspective on the MSGBC basin, a proven super-giant petroleum province with over 10 billion barrels of recoverable oil equivalent, and understand how integrated offshore and onshore exploration, advanced seismic analysis and new data initiatives are driving the next wave of investment across the region.
These discussions come as the MSGBC region looks towards its next phase of energy development following major project milestones reached in 2024 and 2025. In Senegal, the Sangomar deepwater field started operations in June 2024, with the project exceeding expectations, prompting a revised 2025 forecast of 34.5 million barrels. Mauritania and Senegal also reached commercial operations at the Greater Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) project, following first LNG exports in April 2025. Looking ahead, the region strives to advance exploration activities under efforts to maintain growth momentum and unlock new developments. Mauritania and Senegal are seeking partners to advance their respective Yakaar-Teranga and BirAllah projects while Guinea-Bissau signed a deal with Chevron for two exploration blocks. These projects showcase the level of potential in the region, with geological insights set to further drive exploration activities.
Exploration is being de-risked by multi-client seismic initiatives. Partners including TGS, PGS and GeoPartners continue to expand coverage, providing approximately 100,000 km of 2D and 100,000 sq km of 3D data in Mauritania alone. Notable projects include the “Jaan” 3D survey, filling gaps along the Paleoshelf-Edge Trend to identify “next SNE” type discoveries, and advanced multibeam and Seaseep studies, which provide physical evidence of active petroleum systems and enhance pre-drill risk assessment. Governments are promoting investment using these datasets, with Guinea-Conakry’s National Seismic Data Visualization Center supporting its 22-block licensing round and Mauritania preparing a 15-block offshore round highlighting proven giants like GTA and Bir Allah. As the region pursues new exploration campaigns, the MSGBC Oil, Gas & Power 2025 discussions will prove crucial, supporting investment decisions and enticing new players to join the market.
“The MSGBC Oil, Gas & Power 2025 panel and presentations provide a critical platform for understanding how geoscience-driven insights are shaping investment in North-West Africa. Delegates will gain unique access to the latest exploration data, regulatory updates and strategic opportunities across both offshore and onshore hydrocarbon blocks,” states Sandra Jeque, Events and Project Director, Energy Capital & Power.
