MSGBC Oil, Gas & Power 2025 to Spotlight Frontier Basin Exploration in High-Level Session
This year’s MSGBC Oil, Gas & Power 2025 conference and exhibition – taking place in Dakar from December 8-10 – will feature a strategic session titled Leveraging Frontier Discoveries for Growth in West Africa. Taking place on December 9, the session will feature key insights from leading companies, including Senegal’s national oil company Petrosen E&P, engineering and technology company Technip Energies, data and intelligence firm TGS and energy major bp.
Hosted under the broader theme Energy, Petroleum and Mining in Africa: Synergy for Inclusive Economic Development, the session will examine how frontier basin exploration – underpinned by cutting-edge seismic imaging, competitive fiscal regimes and proven geological systems – is reshaping the investment landscape across the MSGBC basin.

Stretching across Mauritania, Senegal, The Gambia, Guinea-Bissau and Guinea-Conakry, the MSBGC basin is emerging as one of the world’s most promising hydrocarbon frontiers. The region’s attractiveness is being bolstered by recent milestones, including first gas exports from the Greater Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) LNG project and first oil from Senegal’s Sangomar oilfield. Meanwhile, ongoing exploration across Mauritania’s ultra-deepwater blocks, The Gambia’s offshore acreage and Guinea-Bissau’s Bijagos Basin continues to reveal new geological opportunities.
Improved seismic imaging – including advanced 3D visualization, full waveform inversion and AI-driven analytics – is sharply reducing geological uncertainty and improving drilling outcomes. Investor interest is also rising, highlighted by energy major Chevron’s recent acquisition of Guinea-Bissau’s deepwater Blocks 5B and 6B, where it holds a 90% working interest alongside the country’s state-owned Petroguin. Meanwhile, Guinea-Conakry is preparing a 22-block licensing round and has opened a seismic data visualization center, further de-risking exploration and signaling expanding opportunities for international operators.
Amid these developments, the upcoming panel discussion will outline emerging frontier opportunities across the region. Participants will gain insight into exploration strategies, regional licensing trends and project readiness across emerging plays – from Mauritania’s C-10 and C-19 blocks, operated by energy major Shell, to Guinea-Bissau’s Chevron-led 5B and 6B blocks and The Gambia’s FAR-operated A2 and A5 prospects. The Leveraging Frontier Discoveries for Growth in West Africa session is set to provide investors, operators and policymakers with a comprehensive view of the basin’s evolving opportunities and the technologies transforming exploration success across the region.
“The MSGBC basin remains one of the most exciting exploration frontiers in the world. This session will undoubtedly showcase how recent discoveries, modern technologies and investor-friendly frameworks are unlocking new growth pathways for West Africa,” states Sandra Jeque, Events and Project Director, Energy Capital & Power.
