MSGBC 2025 to Showcase Gas-to-Power as a Catalyst for Industrialization
The upcoming MSGBC Oil, Gas & Power 2025 conference and exhibition – taking place in Dakar on December 8-10 – will feature a high-level panel titled Next-Generation Gas-to-Power: Fueling Economic Growth and Energy Access, spotlighting the region’s growing portfolio of gas-to-power projects.
The session will bring together leading figures driving West Africa’s gas-to-power transition, including Papa Momar lô, Director General, RGS S.A.; Riverson Oppong, CEO, Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies (COMAC); Domanique Gadelle, Vice President-Early Engagement Gas, Technip Energies; and a senior representative from Senegal’s state-owned Senelec. Together, they will unpack the strategic role of gas in anchoring industrialization, stabilizing electricity tariffs and expanding universal energy access across the MSGBC region.

As the region enters a new gas era, key infrastructure milestones underscore this transformation. In early 2025, the Greater Tortue Ahmeyim LNG project – operated by bp with partners Kosmos Energy, Senegal’s Petrosen and Mauritania’s SMHPM – achieved first gas, establishing the foundation for a domestic gas industry spanning Senegal and Mauritania. The project’s success has accelerated national plans to harness gas for power generation and industrial development.
In Senegal, Senelec’s Cap des Biches Power Plant – currently being converted to run on natural gas – will soon become the country’s largest power station, adding an additional 65 MW of dual-fuel capacity to the grid. Meanwhile, RGS S.A. is advancing the national gas pipeline network, a cornerstone of the government’s Emerging Senegal Plan, enabling local industries and power producers to access cleaner, cheaper energy.
In Mauritania, the Banda Gas-to-Power Project, supported by the World Bank, aims to leverage domestic gas resources to reduce electricity costs, boost supply and enable regional power trade. Downstream players, represented by COMAC, are also advancing new LNG import and distribution infrastructure to support industrial demand and energy diversification.
With Technip Energies contributing world-class engineering and engineering, procurement and construction expertise to major gas and power projects, the MSGBC region is rapidly evolving into a continental hub for gas-based industrialization. As such, the upcoming panel is well-positioned to provide investors, developers and policymakers with direct insight into the next wave of opportunities transforming the regional energy landscape.
“Gas-to-power is the cornerstone of West Africa’s energy transformation, driving industrial growth, tariff stability and universal electrification. Through coordinated infrastructure development and regional collaboration, the MSGBC basin is positioning itself as a leading hub for sustainable, gas-based power generation,” states Sandra Jeque, Events and Project Director, Energy Capital & Power.
The Next-Generation Gas-to-Power: Fueling Economic Growth and Energy Access panel will take place as part of the MSGBC Oil, Gas & Power 2025’s technical program on December 9 in Dakar.
