The 2025 edition of the MSGBC Oil, Gas & Power conference comes at a pivotal time for the region, as major projects such as British energy major bp’s Greater Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) LNG development offshore Mauritania and Senegal continue to advance. Phase 1 of the GTA project, which began exporting LNG earlier this year, is expected to produce around 2.4 million tons of natural gas per annum, while future capacity upgrades could increase output by up to 10%. Projects of this scale highlight the growing demand for international collaboration and expertise in supporting regional energy infrastructure and local workforce development.
Meanwhile, recent data highlights the strengthening economic ties between Mauritania and the UK. In the year leading up to Q1 2025, total trade in goods and services between the two countries reached £187 million, marking a 53% increase from the previous year. UK exports to Mauritania grew by over 100%, with services accounting for nearly 80% of these exports, reflecting a growing demand for British expertise and investment in sectors such as energy, education and financial services.
As a Strategic Partner, MBBC is set to play a key role in facilitating dialogue between UK investors and local stakeholders, participating in trade missions, networking sessions and panel discussions throughout the conference. The partnership also reflects MBBC’s wider mission to support sustainable investment, promote best practices and strengthen trade relationships between Mauritania and the UK.
“MBBC’s expertise and network is invaluable in connecting UK investors with key stakeholders across the MSGBC region. This partnership underscores our commitment to fostering meaningful international collaboration and supporting the growth of West Africa’s energy sector,” states Sandra Jeque, Project Director, Energy Capital & Power.
