Mali Energy Minister Tiémoko Traoré Joins MSGBC Conference Amid Regional Power Push
Mali’s Minister of Energy and Water Tiémoko Traoré will participate as a speaker at MSGBC Oil, Gas & Power 2026 in Dakar on December 2–3. His participation brings the country’s electricity infrastructure priorities and regional energy cooperation agenda to the West African investment forum.
The summit will provide a platform for Mali to engage investors, development finance institutions and technical partners as the country works to strengthen electricity supply, expand transmission capacity and mobilize resources for infrastructure development.
Minister Traoré’s participation comes as Mali advances major grid investment projects and pursues cross-border electricity integration. The country faces persistent power shortages, increasing pressure to modernize transmission infrastructure and improve reliability for households and industrial consumers. Regional cooperation is becoming a key component of its response.
A key priority is the $190 million Bamako North 225 kV Loop Project, approved for partial funding through agreements with the African Development Bank. The project will upgrade transmission and distribution infrastructure, connect 10,000 additional households and small businesses and improve supply to approximately 40 industrial facilities.
Mali is also pursuing regional power integration through the Mauritania-Mali electricity interconnection. The planned 225 kV transmission infrastructure is intended to strengthen cross-border electricity supply, diversify available power sources and support longer-term energy security across the two countries. The initiative reflects the importance of regional infrastructure in addressing electricity constraints.
Beyond grid development, Mali is seeking to mobilize its mineral wealth to support wider infrastructure investment. Gold and emerging lithium opportunities offer potential revenue sources for energy, water and transport projects, linking mining sector development with industrial growth and electricity demand.
MSGBC Oil, Gas & Power 2026 will convene government representatives, energy companies, investors and development partners under the theme “Powering Investment, Delivering Prosperity: Executing the Region’s Energy Strategy.” Minister Traoré’s participation will place Mali’s infrastructure priorities within broader discussions on investment, regional cooperation and energy security across West Africa.
Organized by Energy Capital & Power and held under the high patronage of Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, MSGBC Oil, Gas & Power 2026 will convene heads of state, ministers, investors, operators and development partners from Mauritania, Senegal, The Gambia, Guinea-Bissau and Guinea-Conakry.
