Balanced Power Mix, Digitalization Key to MSGBC Energy Security, Say Industry Experts
Industry leaders at the MSGBC Oil, Gas & Power 2025 conference and exhibition underscored the urgent need to scale clean energy technologies to strengthen regional energy security and industrialization.
During the Powering the MSGBC Region with Sustainable Technology session, Jason Yang, General Manager at industrial valve manufacturer and supplier Neway Valve highlighted how the company is leveraging its expertise to support industrial development across the basin.
“Neway Valve is deepening its footprint across the MSGBC region – backed by our West Africa subsidiary and local partnerships – to deliver reliable valve solutions for flagship projects like the Greater Tortue Ahmyim LNG development, Sangomar oilfield and BirAllah, and to support the basin’s rapidly expanding oil, gas and power landscapes,” Yang stated.
While no single resource can meet all needs in the MSGBC region, it was noted that a balanced power mix combining renewables and hydrocarbons offers the clearest path forward. Meanwhile the speakers stressed that automation and efficiency through data, hybrid microgrids for reliable electrification, and digitalized decarbonization of infrastructure is essential for driving growth, energy reliability and long-term sustainability.
“On a macro-level, there’s no one-size-fits-all solution in terms of what energy source is the most effective for the MSGBC region,” stated Jonathan Ambrogi, Business Devleopment Officer, EnGreen, adding, “One thing is for certain and that’s that a well-defined power mix that incorporates renewables and hydrocarbons will be the clearest pathway to powering the region.”
“Electrification must be viable, accessible and stable through the infrastructure deployed across the basin,” stated Nezha Bregeon, Vice President Industry FSA & Islands at digital automation and energy management corporation Schneider Electric. “Digitalization, in turn, helps to monetize and optimize every kilowatt, anticipate costs with greater precision and reassure investors.”
In the clean cooking space, Katrin Puetz, Co-Founder of biogas producer BiogasUnite stressed that limited access to technology remains a major obstacle to expanding cooking solutions across Africa. By combining a service-focused platform with market-based incentives, she noted, clean cooking solutions have the potential to become reliable, profitable and scalable across Africa while tackling maintenance gaps and reducing reliance on traditional fuels.
“It’s very clear that one of the major drivers in the lack of clean cooking solutions in Africa comes from a lack of access to technologies and resources,” Puetz stated.
