The development marks a huge milestone for Mozambique and places the country on the path towards achieving first liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargo by the second half of 2022.

Following a Final Investment Decision for the project in 2017, Eni and partners commenced with the development of the FLNG platform with the vessel arriving in Mozambique from South Korea in January 2022 and the mooring and connection to six underwater production wells finalized in March and May 2022, respectively.

According to a press release issued by Eni, state of the art low-carbon and energy efficiency technologies including dry low nitrogen oxide, waste heat recovery and zero flaring were leveraged to deliver LNG in a sustainable manner, helping reduce emissions and energy losses from the project.

With Africa seeking to optimize the exploitation of its gas resources, the Coral-Sul FLNG project is expected to provide a blueprint for low-carbon gas projects in Africa and help accelerate investments and project development across the continent’s hydrocarbon sector.
