The government is yet to make a final investment decision for electrification projects targeting the southern parts of the country, according to H.E João Baptista Borges, Minister of Energy and Water.

“The important thing now is to bring electricity production to the south and east of the country, where diesel is still used for energy production,” he said.

As part of electrification measures underway for consumers in the eastern parts of the country, the government has developed a transmission line to transport electricity for consumers in Lunda Norte, Lunda Sul, Moxico, Bié and Malanje provinces.

The pledge comes at a time less than 40% of Angolans have access to electricity and the government is fast-tracking the diversification of the energy mix through the development of renewables energies and the optimal exploitation of the country’s hydrocarbon resources.
