Boasting a production rate of 130 bcm of gas annually, of which over 50 billion is exported, Algeria is well-positioned to take advantage of the global demand for natural gas, particularly in countries seeking to find alternative sources in the wake of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine earlier this year.
In 2022, Sonatrach has signed agreements with Italy and Slovenia to supply 9 billion and 300 million cubic meters of gas, respectively, transporting its gas through the Transmed-Enrico Matei, and Medgaz pipelines, which pass through northern Algeria into Spain.
